What’s Coming Up – Week of Dec. 10-14

Miscellaneous:

Candy Cane Sale: The annual candy cane sale is coming! Our 5th grade classes will be selling candy canes to help raise money for their 5th grade activities. The sale will be  through Friday, December 14th. The cost for each candy cane is $1.00 and they will be delivered the same day they are ordered. Thank you in advance for your support!

Holiday Music Program: Georgetown’s 3rd-5th grade holiday music program will be from 7:45 – 8:15 (Students report no earlier than 7:30) on Thursday, December 13th at Fair Haven Church.  Please click the link HERE to see more detailed program information from Mrs. Bretz.

Toys for Tots: Toys for Tots donations will be accepted until Thursday, Dec. 13. For more information, click here.

Early Release: Friday, December 14th.

Holiday Party – Friday, December 21

Hello, parents!

Our classroom holiday party will be on Friday, Dec. 21 from 9:45-11:00. For the past few years, our party has been a pancake breakfast, and the kids have really enjoyed it. There are many opportunities to donate items or to help out on the day of the party. To organize donations and volunteers, I’m using SignUp.com.

What’s Coming Up – Week of December 3-7, 2018

Miscellaneous:

The sale will be from Monday, December 3rd  through Friday, December 14th. The cost for each candy cane is $1.00, and they will be delivered the same day they are ordered. Thank you in advance for your support!

Penguin Patch Holiday ShopThe holiday shop will be available next week if the students wish to buy holiday presents for their loved ones. Our classroom’s shopping day will be Thursday, December 6th.

Holiday Music Program: Georgetown’s holiday music program will be in the evening on Thursday, December 13th at Fair Haven Church. Watch the blog for future updates.

Early Release: Friday, December 14th.

Class Holiday Party:  Our classroom holiday party will be on Friday, Dec. 21. We will be having a breakfast. Look for details and a sign up for donations and volunteers coming very soon.

Math: Unit 3: Multiplication and Division with Fractions.

  • Students should continue practicing their math facts using Moby Max.

ELA: Non-Fiction Texts

  • We are focusing on becoming powerful readers of narrative and expository nonfiction texts, as well as constructing written responses that give evidence to support our thinking.
  • Reminder….The students are expected to read 100 minutes a week. As a parent please initial the log when they read at home, showing you confirm your child has read for the minutes recorded.

Social Studies: We’re continuing our social studies unit called Three Worlds Meet.

Science: We are investigating our science unit “Go with the Flow!”

What’s Coming Up – Week of Oct. 29-Nov. 2

Miscellaneous:

  • Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on November 5th and November 7th. A conference time slip is being sent home today. We look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress. Please email your child’s teacher ASAP if your conference time needs to be rescheduled.
  • Goodies Factory fundraiser orders and payment due on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
    • Please turn in one check payable to Georgetown Elementary for the entire order.
    • The 5th grade activity fee of $100, minus any money earned by fundraising, is due on or before February 1, 2019. Once the fundraiser is complete, you will be informed of the remaining balance due.
  • Fall parties will be on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 2:15-3:15. Students are to bring their costume to school. Time will be given for the kids to change into them prior to the party.
  • Early release on Friday, November 2.

    • Please turn in one check payable to Georgetown Elementary for the entire order.
  • Fall parties will be on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 2:15-3:15.

Math: Unit 2: Adding and Subtracting Decimals.

  • Students should continue practicing their math facts using Moby Max.

ELA: In ELA, we are beginning a unit where students will be joining book clubs and looking deeper at characters and traits that they exhibit.  

  • Reminder….The students are expected to read 100 minutes a week. As a parent please initial the log when they read at home, showing you confirm your child has read for the minutes recorded.

Science: We are continuing to make claims based on evidence and reasoning and will apply these to our upcoming science investigations.

What’s Coming Up – Week of Oct. 15-19, 2018

Miscellaneous:

  • Early release on Friday, Oct. 12.
  • Information came home this week about the 5th grade activity fee. You can view the information here as well.
  • Look for Goodies Factory Fundraiser materials coming home soon to help cover the 5th grade activity fee.
  • Fall party will be on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 2:15-3:15.
  • More information will be coming soon will be coming soon.
  • Costumes will be allowed during the party only within these guidelines provided by Mrs. Reagan:
    • No masks during the school day, and masks must be worn in the room only for the party.  No masks in the hallway or on the bus loop or on the playground with the exception of the kindergarten parade.
    • Party time masks: Only if they are not scary. Parents, if you believe a mask might be scary it should NOT be brought to school. Classroom teachers will make the final decision regarding whether a mask is appropriate for the classroom party. These can be worn for trick or treating, but please do not send them to school.

Music Program – Thursday, Dec. 14

Kindergarten through 2nd grade begins at 6:303rd through 5th grade begins at 7:45.  This link will take you to ALL the DETAILs you need to know for the music program.

Important note: 

  • Please keep your child’s coats with you.  Do not leave coats in the drop off room.   Kids will be dismissed to parents from the performance area, which means parents need to have coats with them.

If you would like to order a DVD of the program, please fill out this paper  HolidayDVDForm-1oe9scd and return it with your payment to the office no later than Monday, Dec. 18. Checks can be made payable to WCET TV. The cost is $15.

The annual candy cane sale has returned. Our fifth-grade classes will sell candy canes at school to help raise money for their end of year activities. This year the sale runs from Monday, December 4 through Friday, December 15. The cost for each candy cane is $1.00, and candy canes will be delivered the same day they are ordered. What’s Coming Up – Week of November 27 – December 1

Hello families!

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving break. We have just 20 school days until our holiday break, and those 20 days are packed with learning as well as some special activities.

Miscellaneous:

  • Early release this Friday, December 1.
  • The Penguin Patch Holiday Shoppe will be at Georgetown next week. This is an opportunity for students to purchase gifts for their family members. Our class will be shopping on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 2:30.
  • Georgetown Elementary Holiday Program is on Thursday, December 14 at Fair Haven.
  • Our classroom holiday party will be on Friday, Dec. 22. We will be having a breakfast. Look for details and a sign up for donations and volunteers coming soon.

  • We’re learning about Native American cultural regions and how climate and natural resources influenced the culture that developed in each region.

Science:

  • We are investigating the causes and effects of the changing landscape of the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
