What’s Coming Up – Week of Oct. 19-23, 2020

Miscellaneous:

  • Friday, Oct. 23 – Early Release
  • Monday, Oct. 26 – No School
  • Friday, October 30 – Fall Party

This year for our fall celebrations we are looking forward to having parties in our classrooms much like in years past, but this year will be slightly different in a few ways.

      1. Parents and volunteers will not be able to attend.  (We will miss you!)
      2. Snacks need to be store-bought and individually packaged We don’t have any food allergies in our classroom this year.
      3. Donated items (supplies, snacks, etc.) need to be sent in 24 hours in advance (or more).

Look for an email later this week that will include a sign-up for snacks and other items needed for our celebration.

Like in previous years, we will be welcoming your children to wear costumes if they wish. One change this year is that children will be able to wear their costumes to school and wear them the whole day.  The intent behind this is to limit children gathering in the restrooms to change and to limit the number of children needing assistance from teachers and staff to get into their costumes. We invite you to send your children in a costume that includes no weapons or gore, and easily allows your child to participate in regular school routines and procedures. There will not be any masks other than COVID-19-related face masks allowed. There will not be time given to dress or apply makeup as in years past.

Please consider the questions below when deciding on a costume:

    • Can they take it off themselves to use the bathroom?
    • Can they fit in their seat at their desk?
    • Can they go down the slide or sit in the swings?

We ask that you save bulky, inflatable, or extravagant costumes for home use, and dress in a fun and simple costume for the school day.  Fall or pumpkin t-shirts are a great alternative as well.

My plan is to weave in festive activities and embrace the fun throughout the day.  We are thrilled at the opportunity to celebrate with your children and look forward to creating another fun and memorable school event for them.

  • S.O.A.R. Kickoff!
    • This week, we launched our PBIS OUTSTANDING TICKETS. Students went on a TOP SECRET MISSION to find two SOAR agents! The scavenger hunt ended back in our classroom with students needing to find an Outstanding taped underneath a table. When individuals or the whole class earns an Outstanding ticket for excellent behavior or SOARing in some way, everyone benefits! We’ll celebrate when we reach a total of 15 Outstandings!

Miscellaneous

  • Walkathon:
    • Thank you for your generous support of our walkathon! We are so fortunate to have a supportive school community.
  • Jet’s Pizza Night – Thursday, Oct. 8!
  • Book It:
    • Our classroom is participating in the Pizza Hut Book It program again this year.  This program will run from October through March.  Each month your student will bring home a calendar with a reading goal on it.  Every time they reach their goal they can mark it on their calendar.  Return the calendar back to school at the end of the month to receive a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
  • Mask Reminder
    • Students have adjusted well to the mask requirement overall, but now that we’re six weeks into the year, some are getting a bit lax about wearing them properly. If you follow the HPS COVID-19 dashboard, you’re aware that some cases are happening within buildings in the district. It is important that we remain diligent in following masking procedures.
    • Please talk with your child about the importance of proper mask wearing. Here are some visuals that might be helpful:

  • Turkey Trot Information:
    • Turkey Trot will be a virtual race this year. More information is available on the Georgetown P.E. blog.

A Note From the STEAM Studio-

Please note that the STEAM teachers have always used Google Classroom as a learning tool in the STEAM studio.  All assignments that are posted while we are doing face to face learning will always be completed in class and should not be worked on at home.  I tend to post assignments ahead of time to work out any issues and students can ignore the email that a new assignment has been posted.  We use Google Classroom differently than the classroom teachers and it was causing a bit of confusion.  Please reach out to Mrs. Totten (atotten@hpseagles.net) if you have any questions!

What’s Coming Up – Week of March 16-20

What’s coming up? That is a great question! We are in uncharted territory, and our district leaders are working tirelessly to determine the best course of action in an unusual situation. It is my understanding that the district will be communicating with families soon about guidelines for at-home learning.

At our house, we are also waiting to find out what learning might look like during this time. I’ve noticed that when my kids or I feel anxious or face uncertainty, we find some comfort in a consistent routine, so together we came up with a very basic structure and routine for our  weekdays. Mrs. Reagan shared a some ideas on the Georgetown Elementary blog. If you’re on Facebook or Instagram, you may have seen similar ideas. You could adapt sample schedules/routines according to the number and ages of children in your family.

Keep watching the blog for updates.

Be healthy.

Love,

Mrs. Ball
